Reservations – let’s be honest, we all have them.
What will hosting a child in our home be like? What will the child eat? What will they wear? Do they need diapers, wipes, formula? Are they potty trained? What is the child’s schedule like? Will they get along with our kids? Are they afraid of dogs? The list goes on and on.
It is perfectly normal to have reservations before jumping in to be a host family. I had them. We’ve been at this for years, and I still have them when we host a new kiddo in our home.
When I have the opportunity to talk with a family who is interested in hosting children in their home, I tell them that they can ask me anything. I reiterate…ANYTHING.
I tell them that nothing is off limits in questioning what it is like to host children in our home.
It is natural to have questions.
More often than not, when I have the opportunity to talk to another mom who is considering hosting a child in her family’s home, I get to hear how the Holy Spirit is nudging her – just like the Holy Spirit nudged me (again and again) years ago before stepping into the adventures that this ministry brings.
Don’t ignore the nudging, friends.
God is looking for our obedience, and when God is planning on shifting and changing our hearts to be in better alignment with Him, he calls us into the uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable is scary, but the work God will do in our hearts far outweighs the fear.
